Why Should I Get a Breast Reduction?

Breast Reduction

While some women are unhappy with the small size of their chests and undergo breast augmentation surgery to increase volume, others have the opposite problem. Their breasts are overly large. And while our society seems to highlight the benefits of big breasts, there are so many drawbacks, both social and physical, that cause women to look into breast reduction surgery (reduction mammaplasty).

But, will a breast reduction actually help? The answer is a definite Yes! So, let’s take a closer look at this procedure.

How Will Breast Reduction Surgery Help Me, Specifically?

A breast reduction is a surgical procedure in which the size of the breasts is reduced to allow them to be more symmetrical and proportional to the rest of the body. Many celebrities we know and love have chosen to have breast reduction surgery to enhance their lives.

There are many reasons women choose to have breast reduction surgery, such as the fact that overly large breasts can cause both social trauma and physical pain.

Social Reasons for a Breast Reduction

Having large breasts can bring about unwanted attention from people out in public and private settings, which can cause a woman to feel insecure and self-conscious about how her body looks. She may try to cover up her breasts with loose-fitting shirts, and she might stay away from any gathering or activity that might require her to show off her full breasts, like going to the beach or the pool.

Additionally, big breasts can keep many women from participating in activities that they may enjoy, such as competitive or recreational sports. But not being able to wear clothes that fit your body and missing out on having fun isn’t fair at all.

Physical Reasons for a Breast Reduction

Large breasts cause many physical problems. These include back, neck, shoulder, and chest pain from carrying the extra weight and skin irritation, like rashing, below and between the breasts.

If your breast size is bringing on unwanted attention, pain, or keeping you from living your life to the fullest, then you owe it to yourself to correct this issue so that you can enjoy a pain-free life of doing the activities you love.

How Is a Breast Reduction Performed?

For your breast reduction surgery, you will be given general anesthesia. This way, you won’t feel any pain or discomfort.

Your plastic surgeon will make an incision in each breast. An anchor incision is most commonly used, which involves an incision around the areola that extends vertically down the middle of the breast to the bottom of the breast and another incision that runs along the inframammary fold beneath the breast.

Your plastic surgeon will then remove excess skin and breast tissue. After this, the remaining breast tissue will be repositioned and the nipple-areolar complex will be lifted to a more natural position.

In total, this procedure usually takes three to four hours to complete, and then you can look forward to a life of enjoying smaller, more manageable-sized breasts.

Can a Breast Reduction Be Combined With Any Other Procedures?

Breast reduction surgery is almost always combined with a breast lift. While the breast reduction techniques will give you firmer and smaller breasts, breast lift surgery will raise the height of your breasts so that they sit at a perkier, more youthful position.

If you are interested in a total transformation to your chest, then a breast reduction and lift can be your answer!
